You Broke My Will, Oh What a Thrill. Jerry Lee Lewis (no, not Jerry Lewis....... the musical one)

Today is the birthday of rock & roll legend Jerry Lee Lewis, he is 75.

Dear Jerry,
I have always been a big fan of yours. I love your piano style, and the way you flip your hair around when you sing. Living to 75 is a great testament for someone in your profession, lots of rock singers don't make it past 40. One in particular, shall we name him Big E, died too young from too much of everything (isn't that gluttony?). Anyways, you stuck to your guns when everyone turned on you for marrying your 13 year old cousin. Your career took a big hit because of that, but you made it through the scandal. And you never started taking karate as a desperate attempt to keep from being fat, I love that about you.
I hope you have a really good day, and celebrate it with your closest friends & family.
You shake my nerves and you rattle my brain. Happy Birthday!
Your friend,
Diane xo

Images That Came Up When I Googled Fashion Hot Flashes

I would just like to say that whoever thought of making the woman with the fan gray haired is an idiot. We might be roasting, but most of us still know how to color our hair.

I Want to Always Be the One to Blow Your Mind

1st up today, don't forget to check out Karli's blog "Try to learn something about everything and everything about something". Her blog is like visiting with your bff. I have a thing about "mirror" outfit shots, but that has nothing to do with why I like her blog. Well, maybe just a little.

Next up, have you seen What the Buck? Michael Buckley's commentaries are a riot. I'm a subscriber.

3rd on our list, Kudos to Bryanboy for the outfit he wore to Vogue Italia. His blog is one to add to your list if you want to know about innovative fashion.

Last, but not least, Congratulations to Tavi for her recent appearance in The New Yorker. Keep your eyes on this young woman, she will be more powerful than Anna Wintour some day.

That is all.

Sweet Dreams are Made of These, Who Am I to Disagree?

I went for a walk today, and didn't stop walking until I had blisters on the bottoms of my feet. And even then I didn't stop. I took off my mocassins, and kept walking in bare feet until I got home. Next time, sneakers for sure. On my walk, I passed a no loitering sign that tempted me into loitering, because that's just the kind of rebel that I am. Then I passed a cool house with gaudy gold trim. Wow, I didn't see THAT on my walks before.
Later on I went to a Lia Sophia jewelry party at a neighbor's house (she makes the best taco salad y'all). It was kind of awesome. I ordered something for my dear sister who will be visiting me this month, and something for my best friend's birthday, and a little something for me. Actually, I wished it was all for me, but that's just bad Karma or something.
Then I got a cool belated birthday present from my son and his awesome girlfriend (refer to the picture of them on my sidebar if you want to see how cool they are). I was so surprised, and really touched by the message inside the card (which I am not sharing with you, because it's personal, yo).
On a final note, Marie Claire posted an article on inspirational women, and Michelle Phan was mentioned as the new Kevin Aucoin. Those are some mighty big shoes to fill.

Help Me Make it Through the Day

Susie Bubbles aka Stylebubble posted a photo of herself on her blog today which made me think that she had mugged a bag lady and stolen her clothes. She's well aware of her fashion faux pas, and commented that due to the pace of fashion-blogging, she is exhausted. (not in those exact words) In addition, she stated that some bloggers have assistants to help them through fashion week, and that maybe she should get one too. HAVE ASSISTANTS, PEOPLE!!!
So here's my question: Have some bloggers become glorified reporters?
The photo of Britney Spears with photographers doesn't really relate to the story, I just like her a lot.

Be Bold, Be Brave, Be Beautiful - Tim Gunn's Fashion Advice

What you're seeing is a peek at Naeem Khan's Spring 2011 line (Michelle Obama wears his stuff). I think his designs are beautiful, not trendy. Come to think of it, when you look at the big fashion trends for Fall 2010 and Spring 2011, aren't most of the trends not trendy at all? Classic cuts, pieces with staying power. What's going on here? Are we really getting back to "dressing"? ****thinking about the people that I've seen today***** Nah. It's got to be a fluke.

Hey Soul Sista, Playing Mister Mister on the Radio

First up, John Galliano has put up 10 pieces of graffitis throughout London as a special promotion for Elle's 25th birthday. There are clues, and the first person to find all 10 and tweets photos of themselves at the locations will have a chance to win a priceless JG creation and a subscription to Elle. Um, yeah.

Secondly, I'm really excited about how my fall decorating came out. I was envisioning a Japanese artisan scolding me for doing it all wrong as I was ironing the wax paper leaves for my bathroom window, but whatevs. Babyzilla asked me not to put up anything too scary, so I put up a cute little scarecrow guy in the garden next to Bobby Bones, who has a new spot every year. For a dead guy he sure does get around. I'm particularly fond of my little wooden decorations, I have no idea how old they are (I got them at an auction).

One of the things I love best about Halloween decorating is how my house just blends right in. Suddenly it's o.k. that the paint is peeling and the carpet is old, that stuff just adds to the appeal. It's the one time of year that I can feel totally at ease about my humble little hobbit house.

How is your fall decorating going? Are you inspired, or maybe you just want to hop a plane to London for a crack at John's contest.

Leather Studded Kisses in the Sand

My two favorite fashion faux pas of the day.

Gotcha's twin tower t-shirt with their name on the front. Wasn't anyone really looking at the shirt when they designed it?

Marc Jacob's white eyeliner and frizzy hair. If I tried either one of these looks, or better yet, tried them at the same time......wait.....choking on a piece of pretzel.......hahaha...cough.....gag.....oh never mind.

A Message to Rudy - To make these easy to read, just click on the image and it will enlarge. Ha ha, that sounded a little dirty, didn't it?

"Where's My Pog? It's a Slammer." - Jack

I'd say it was a good day:
Babyzilla discovered that the box that holds her toys provides entertainment too.
Dinner consisted of baked curried squash, a lite salad (Good Seasons "natural" dressing, of course), and a mouthwatering blue cheese burger on a toasted whole wheat muffin.
There was also red wine, naturally. Buying the wine was a bit of a strange experience:

I bought two small bottles of wine, one for me & one for someone else. That's not very complicated, is it? The sales woman proceeded to put both bottles into the same bag.

Me: We are two separate people.
The sales woman looks at me like I'm speaking in Proverbs.
Attempt 2, Me: We live in two different houses.
Now the sales woman looks like she wishes there was a button under the counter that would bring the police quickly.
Attempt 3, Me: I am buying one bottle for myself, and the other one for someone else who is over 21. Could you please bag them separately?
Aha! The light goes on, and the saleswoman is finally "home".
Geez.

On a final note, Selfridges store is opening the largest shoe department in the world on September 23rd. The photo, I'm sure, doesn't do justice to the grandeur and decadence of it all. Regard, the movie theater seats.

New York Fashion Week Beauty Trends for the Insane

Peter Som gives us bright eyeliner, while Vena Cava gives us orange lips, and Richard Chai gives us "Howdy Doody" ears. Next up we're offered white out alien eyes from Cushnie et Ochs, a "bustle" bun from Christian Siriano, and wtf happend to my comb hair by Jen Kao. The only new look that won't get you laughed out of the family reunion, is the sleek fishtail braid offered by Nicholas K., and that's actually an old look from last season.
If this assortment is a preview of what's being put on the fashion plate this season, then it looks like I'll be on a diet, or having leftovers.
Oh yeah, and the model for Christian Siriano looks like someone just slapped her in the face. What was that make-up artist thinking?
