Where Did the Time Go?

It doesn't seem like that long ago. The 80's. Terrible decade for style, but maybe for me, that was because I was having babies and didn't have a whole lot of time to concentrate on fashion. I wore some really terrible, bright outfits back then.

When I look at fashion today, I gravitate towards classics. No t-shirts with messages, no crazy hair colors, definately no scary make-up, and no safety pins as accessories. Luckily, finding classic pieces is a cinch; they are plentiful and cheap on clearance and at the thrift shops. New twists on the old classics will generally cost you more. There are also middle of the road classics, not too pricey but not cheap, and these can be found at finer department stores and catalogs like J Crew and L.L. Bean. (Avoid Vermont General Store if you don't want to wind up looking like a cousin to a Yeti)

With a 2 year old grand daughter, I am just as short on time as I ever was. But my matured sense of style doesn't let me fall short on style. And to this day, I love to dance around to those great 80's tunes....with a very short dance partner wearing oddly familiar bright colored clothing.

I grew up in the 80's...and I LOVED it. I had a closer relationship with my aunts, uncles and cousins. But these days we're really busy with our own lives.

Although the 80's was a terrible decade for style...we sure love all those retro stuff like L.A. Gear shoes, and shoulder patches...even haircuts from the 80's are making a come back. Haha!

Oh...why am I rambling about the 80's the whole time...?

JD: It sounds to me as though you have a lot of good memories from the 80's, and that could possibly be the reason why you love all of the retro stuff from then. I grew up in the 60's, so I love all of the stuff from that time period the best. I loved growing up with lots of cousins & aunts & uncles, but we have also gone our own way. xo

I was in college in the '80s, so I have great memories from then. I rode a moped to work, in a skirt with big sweaters and lots of fake beads. Scrunchies mandatory.
I looked ridiculous, but had no clue then.
I'm picturing you dancing with your new "short partner" - it makes me smile.

Vic: I would love to see a photo of you from back then. I have an idea forming in my feverish little brain. Maybe it might be fun to do "decade" posts, just once so we don't humiliate ourselves too much. I need to think about this a little more. Hmmmm.

Oh, the 80's. My Mom's hairstyle. So curly. She had pins of those little dolls, too.

Dancing in the kitchen is a must here. Always has been with my grandmother, hopefully..we'll carry on the tradition.

Thanks for the note. Thanks for believing in Archie...hopefully, Emily will too...heheee...

Cait: Am I missing something? What little dolls?
Dancing in the kitchen, that's the place.

You like the Misfits? Wicked!

Andy Warhol said...

Hmm.

Isa: Yep. And The Vapors, and Stiff Little Fingers. We even had electricity and running water back then.

Andy Warhol: Hmmmmm. I am now running over to your site to see who you are.

Andy Warhol: I ran over, you are a strange little man, but I love you. However, I do not love your word verification, as it would not let me leave a comment. xo

What about things that Marcia Wallace would wear?

I grew up int he 80's too and I can still notice the influence in my mood, in myself in all levels...love it and hate it...like J-Hyde.
X.

Zibbs: Thank you for that perfect example of 80's horror-dressing. For those of you who don't know what I'm talking about, refer to Zibb's post on Marcia Cross (his site is hysterical).

XAVS: Yes, it is like that with every decade, love/hate. It's just a little bit more one sided with the 80's.

thanks so much for the note. I've been having problems too with note on especially, the newest comment sections..it just keeps loading and loading.

I saw Fired Up over the weekend..and there were plenty of 80's hair cuts...on those guys & its not even a film about the 80's. It was cute. The dark haired guy in the lead role grew up close to where I live and somebody I work with used to babysit him.

I love your comments.

Great post. My daughter went to a birthday party with an 80s theme, and the girls didn't know how to dress. There was 80s trivia that they didn't know. The parents had a rolicking time while the kids finally wandered off downstairs to listen to 2000s music.

Cute little granddaughter you have there.

Sallymandy: That is such a cute story about the party. Thanks for stopping by. I wish I could leave comments on your site, but I've been having trouble with your word verification. xo
