Happy Mother's Day, or Grand Mother's Day

Some people will tell you that Mother's Day goes all the way back to Greece, and although they honored their mothers, that is not where the day comes from. The spark for Mother's Day in the United States was lit by Julia Howe (author of the Battle Hymn of the Republic) in the 1870's. She was a social activist who was horrified by the carnage of the Civil War and the Franco-American War. She went to London to start a women's peace conference, amongst other things, and rallied for a day honoring all mother's who's sons were killed by other mother's sons.
When I asked my mother-in-law, who is in her 70's, what she would like to do for Mother's Day, she told me she would be busy. She will be leading a protest for peace. God, I absolutely love and admire her.

If my mother was still here, I would tell her how much I have always loved her.

I still miss my mom a lot, as well as my dad. I had the greatest parents ever!

Lovely words, beautiful photos.

Any idea why the American and British Mothers' Days occur on different dates?!

Here in Antwerp Mother's day is celebrated today but the real official date is August 15th...(for the people of Antwerp, not all over our country, strange no ?)

What beautiful pics you posted ; I love the last one especially !!
She look so cute and princess worthy !! :-)
Love the dress ...

Happy M-day to you too Diane, you're a bit like a blog-mom to me (my mom died in 2001) ; I feel I could rely on you if I would have a question or an issue I couldn't work out myself !!
So, a big 'mmmwwwooooeeeeeaaaaah' to you !!

Happy Mother's day! Great info on the holiday.

Hope you are getting lots of love from your loved ones. I think every Mom wants to be remembered ..some how..even if its thoughts on what would my Mom do..& then its sharing their favorite treats & traditions handed down to you.

Thanks so much for reading.

Love the beautiful pics too. Too the coolest Mom I know.

I phoned my mother today because she doesn´t live in Amsterdam. The phonecall I gave her was more important than a mothersday-gift.

Your granddaughter is a cutie.

My mom is alive but dead to me, because I'm dead to her. I sounds really sad but there is a kind of crazy that can't be changed or fixed. I miss her sometimes but I miss my MIL more. This is the second Mother's Day without her and it isn't getting any easier....

Hugs!!
P.S. Your granddaughter couldn't be any cuter if she tried!!
