That Road, The One That's Paved With Good Intentions

Look at this beautiful girl. Doesn't she look like she deserves a birthday card? Well, today is her birthday, she's my sister, and like a moron I forgot to mail her a card.

This is the girl who used to get beat for stuff I did when we were kids.
This is the girl who used to bring me groceries when I didn't have enough money to feed my kids.
This is the girl who used to sing to me and brush the hair back off of my face when I was 5.
This is the girl who pays the airfare for me to come visit her once or twice a year.
This is the girl who stood in her older sister's shadow in high school.
This is the girl who took me on my first cruise, and paid extra so we could have the only penthouse suite on the ship.
This is the girl who has always been there for me.

I could go on listing all of her virtues, but I'm running out of Kleenex.
I meant to send that card, and then I got caught up in the little details of my life, and I forgot. Meant to, schmeant to, good intentions never helped anyone.

Hey, did I tell you about my sister? She's the girl in the photo. Doesn't she look like she deserves a birthday card?

Of course she does but I'm sure she'll understand if it was a couple of days late (unless she was a fascist robot then I'd understand hehe) b/c remember, it's the thought that counts. Just don't forget to call her and tell her how much you love her, etc.

Her dress is awesome. Can we get a year of this photo?

JFK Jean: Of course, she'll understand (more guilt). Did I mention that her nickname is Gandhi Girl?
The photo was taken in May 2009. We were just going into the theater to see The Secret Garden, which was done in a musical format, brilliant.

You ARE going to forward this post to her, right?

Because that's better than a birthday card.

Please don't beat yourself up! You're going to make me cry, now..

Send her an ecard! It won't be the same but you can say what you want to. Copy this post and put it in an ecard. She's your sister. She loves you! You're both beautiful and forgiving!

Tell your sister that I told you to say Happy Birthday from me too! I'm sending you something you can send her from the both of us, okay? Check your email!!

Hugs and love,
GEM

aw..how sweet..but this post is right up there with a great card you could have sent her.

That was so great to say those sincere things. She sounds like a wonderful sister.

Thanks for the note. Oddly, I have a co-worker who hates my guts because I have her job (according to her and I'm younger..but she's so dingy..she doesn't know if she's going or coming half the time) & she was the most horrid person to work with..now she treats me like I'm her very best friend. Of course, I don't trust her. I just can't.

Ok, look. Just send her link, forward the post, get it to her! I mean, how cool that we all know how wonderful she is - if you'd just sent her a lousy card, we would never have been able to envy you this girl!

BTW, she's got a pretty deck sister herself....
