My Sentiments Exactly

I love Diane Keaton. Anyone who is already of fan of her, knows why. If you're not a fan of her, I'm not going to explain it. In her November interview with More magazine, Keaton talked about her mother. As I read her words, I had a revelation. She was certain that her mother had artistic ambitions of her own, however quiet or unrealized. Dorothy (her mom) was an obsessive journal keeper, cramming scores of brick-thick notebooks with thoughts, photographs, doodles and collages. "My mother had that fantasy of more, a bigger life, expressing herself. You don't write all that unless you need to get the story of your life out. You're saying, 'I'm here. I want to express what it meant to me.'" OMG, if her mother was alive today, she would have been blogging! The idea of saying "I'm here. I want to express what it all meant to me" is exactly how I feel. I've never seen anyone put it into better words than Diane Keaton.

zibbsy: Peek-a-boo, I see you. What are you doing over here? You never cease to surprise me. How's the leg today?

I love Diane. She looks as gorgeous today as ever....and I figured you'd like her considering a) your name is also Diane Keaton and b) she's your doppleganger haha.....

diane said...

James: Oh yes, I remember now, how much you said you love her. What's the definition of doppleganger?

She always has some sort of super comfy turtle neck type thingy on. I wish I had more comfy turtle neck type thingys.

diane said...

erin: How about knitting a mock turtle neck that tucks into the top of your sweaters?

She always seems to be laughing, even when she's not laughing, know what I mean?

I don't really know her in much else other than Annie Hall (great movie) but I think her mother and I probably would have gotten along famously.

I adore her and you're right, I believe her Mama might have found her voice in blogging.

drollgirl said...

blogging would have been PERFECT for her!!!!

and feel free to use that photo as a screensaver if you would like. if anybody really rich ever asks you how they can buy the image, please steer them in my direction. :) hahahhahahahahah

She is always her own person, and that is what I love about her.

diane said...

jadedj: Yes, I love that about her. Good observation.

Joanna: Thank you. It's nice to be understood.

Isabel: That's so sweet of you to think of her mom in those terms. I don't think there's many women who wouldn't like you.

The Peach Tart: Can you imagine how far some women writers might have gone if they could have blogged? Viginia Wolf for example?

Drolly: If anybody rich comes anywhere near my computer, it's every woman for herself. The chances of anybody rich coming into my home are very slim.

Chris: I love strong women too. Like Kate Hepburn and Bette Davis.

Ruth Reichl has recently released a memoir of her mother that goes down the same path--of looking through her mother's papers and discovering how stunted her mum had felt.

I never want my daughter to discover such papers in my collection. So I blog.

diane said...

Jocelyn: This is so weird, I was just reading your comment about Miss America and making play dough pies, and thinking "I really like that lady, she sounds so nice." I think a lot of us blog for similar reasons. Wait....I'm coming over.

I am such a DianeKeaton fan. I love how she has always taken care of herself and is always so poised. Didn't you say once that someone said you looked like her?

diane said...

Dooder: I've been compared to a lot of women, in looks and personality. I was told that I reminded someone of Diane Keaton, I don't think it was in looks though.

who doesn't love Diane ?`She breathes class, no ...she invented it !

Dominica said...

oh yeah, I totally agree with JFK Jean !!

diane said...

Domi: Coolness, maybe you could tell me what a doppleganger is.
I love your profile pic......again.

Dominica said...

@Diane

doppleganger (sounds like flemish dubbelganger) = dead ringer = look alike

diane said...

Domi: OMG, then that was a huge compliment that JFK Jean gave me! Wow, you can't see me, but I'm doing the happy clappy dance right now.

Woah the cover of the magazine looks so cool. Yeah, Diane Keaton is one hot momma. What's her age? She's still very attractive.

Oh I loved your comment on my previous blog about your future plans: not duying anytime soon. Haha.

diane said...

Marian: You are so right, she certainly didn't "sell out", did she? I love how open she is about her mother too.
Babyzilla's doing great. I've got her for most of the week, I'm starting to get used to not being able to blog on Tues.-Thurs..sigh.
I love a good quote too. Do you have a good one for me? I bet you hear all kinds of amazing quips while you are out socializing. Thanks for the well wishes honey. Have a great week. Mwahh! xo

JD: You are the only person who noted the magazine cover, which I think is cool enough to frame. Diane Keaton is 63, they did a bit of photo shopping on her, I think.
I love your comments too. You always say something that makes me think or makes me laugh.
